Morning Grace

- Choose one of this week's passages from Luke to be your prayer focus for today. They are: Luke 16:1-9 Luke 16:18 Luke 16:19-31 Luke 17:1-4   - Read the passage again and identify a word or phrases that jump out at you. - Read the passage again, and if possible read from a different translation ( biblegateway.com  has many translations you can choose from). Identify where this passage might be touching your life today. How is this relevant to your life? - Read the passage a third time, again in a different translation if possible. Ask yourself what God is calling you to do or to be from this passage. What change might God be moving your toward? - Close with a silent prayer, listening to God rather than speaking to God. What actions will you take today based on this prayer? - Recite the Lord's Prayer.

Jesus  said to his disciples, “Occasions for stumbling are bound to come, but woe to anyone by whom they come!  It would be better for you if a millstone were hung around your neck and you were thrown into the sea than for you to cause one of these little ones to stumble.  Be on your guard! If another disciple  sins, you must rebuke the offender, and if there is repentance, you must forgive.  And if the same person sins against you seven times a day, and turns back to you seven times and says, ‘I repent,’ you must forgive.” ~ Luke 17:1-4 An apology is the superglue of life. It can repair just about anything. ~ Lynn Johnston Two things happening here. Don't be the person who causes another person to sin. And if a person does sin, forgive them over and over and over again every time they repent. As a teacher and preacher, the first words have a real caution for me. I'd better be really careful what I teach and say. I have to remember that my first mission is to show

She seemed sad. "I hate this reading." she said. "I hate that Jesus says this about divorce." How many people do you know who are divorced? Maybe you are yourself? I am. And of those people, how many cringe when the subject of divorce comes up in church? It's easy to see why. And yet, read this verse again. Who is Jesus directing this quote to? The husband. Women in Jesus' day had no rights. They were property of their husband. Divorce could be obtained by a man leaving a women destitute. She would cease to have personhood. But for Jesus, women had value. The

Then Jesus  said to the disciples, “There was a rich man who had a manager, and charges were brought to him that this man was squandering his property.  So he summoned him and said to him, ‘What is this that I hear about you? Give me an accounting of your management, because you cannot be my manager any longer.’  Then the manager said to himself, ‘What will I do, now that my master is taking the position away from me? I am not strong enough to dig, and I am ashamed to beg.  I have decided what to do so that, when I am dismissed as manager, people may welcome me into their homes.’  So, summoning his master’s debtors one by one, he asked the first, ‘How much do you owe my master?’  He answered, ‘A hundred jugs of olive oil.’ He said to him, ‘Take your bill, sit down quickly, and make it fifty.’  Then he asked another, ‘And how much do you owe?’ He replied, ‘A hundred containers of wheat.’ He said to him, ‘Take your bill and make it eighty.’  And his master commended the dishonest manager
