The Teachings of Jesus in Luke: Friday Follow-Up

Beginning this week, on Fridays I will offer a summary, prayer, or meditation opportunity from the week. For the first few weeks we will be using the African Bible Study Method as a guide.


- Choose one of this weeks passages from Luke to be your prayer focus for today. They are:

 Luke 12:49-53
Luke 13:1-5
Luke 13:20-21
Luke 13:22-29

- Read the passage again and identify a words or phrases that jump out at you.

 - Read the passage again, and if possible read from a different translation (biblegateway.com has many translations you can choose from). Identify where this passage might be touching your life today. How is this relevant to your life?

 - Read the passage a third time, again in a different translation if possible. Ask yourself what God is calling you to do or to be from this passage. What change might God be moving your toward?

 - Close with a silent prayer, listening to God rather than speaking to God. What actions will you take today based on this prayer?

 - Recite the Lord's Prayer.

Transformed through Courage: Esther

Then Esther spoke to Hathach and gave him a message for Mordecai, saying,  “All the king’s servants and the people of the king’s provinces know that if any man or woman goes to the king inside the inner court without being called, there is but one law—all alike are to be put to death. Only if the king holds out the golden scepter to someone, may that person live. The Gospel of Mark: The Crucifixion of Jesus

They compelled a passer-by, who was coming in from the country, to carry his cross; it was Simon of Cyrene, the father of Alexander and Rufus.  Then they brought Jesus to the place called Golgotha (which means the place of a skull).  And they offered him wine mixed with myrrh; but he did not take it.  And they crucified him, and divided his clothes among them, casting lots to decide what each should take.
