Second Discourse in Matthew: Whom to Fear

So have no fear of them; for nothing is covered up that will not be uncovered, and nothing secret that will not become known. What I say to you in the dark, tell in the light; and what you hear whispered, proclaim from the housetops. Do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul; rather fear him who can destroy both soul and body in hell. Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? Yet not one of them will fall to the ground apart from your Father. And even the hairs of your head are all counted. So do not be afraid; you are of more value than many sparrows. ~ Matthew 10:26-31

What's at the heart here?

 Don't worry. Those people who are going to cause you pain since you follow me? They don't get the last word.

 You are beloved, so when you are afraid, hold on to that. It will get you through.

 Secrets won't stay hidden. 

 Truth will out. 

 There are many people these days who worry about the status of truth in our world. Will truth out? Will those who cause pain get theirs? 

 We are a people of grace, but the world seems to be one where we want karma to rule. We want lies to be uncovered and secrets not to be hidden. We want those who cause suffering to get theirs.

 But as we hear Jesus words, maybe it helps to remind ourselves that all of those things might not happen on our time table.

 Or even in the way we'd want it.

 And yet still...we are beloved. Still, we are not alone. Still, even in the midst of anxious times, we can hold on to that.

 Truth will still out.

Resurrection Run

For the week after Easter, some deeper dives into the Resurrection . When (the women) looked up, they saw that the stone, which was very large, had already been rolled back.  As they entered the tomb, they saw a young man, dressed in a white robe, sitting on the right side; and they were alarmed.  But he said to them, “Do not be alarmed; you are looking for Jesus of Nazareth, who was crucified. He has been raised; he is not here.
