Made in the Image of God
For the season of Lent I'll be sharing devotions from Grace Lutheran's devotional book: "Forgiven."
While these devotions are not my words and may not represent my own faith or theological understanding, they are valuable personal faith perspectives of 40 of Grace's members and I am so grateful for their generosity in sharing them.

Part One: Forgiveness & Wholeness
Genesis 1:26-31 (made in image of God, relational)
Then God said, “Let us make humankind in our image, according to our likeness; and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the wild animals of the earth, and over every creeping thing that creeps upon the earth.”
So God created humankind in his image,
in the image of God he created them;
male and female he created them.
in the image of God he created them;
male and female he created them.
God blessed them, and God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth and subdue it; and have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the air and over every living thing that moves upon the earth.” God said, “See, I have given you every plant yielding seed that is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree with seed in its fruit; you shall have them for food. And to every beast of the earth, and to every bird of the air, and to everything that creeps on the earth, everything that has the breath of life, I have given every green plant for food.” And it was so. God saw everything that he had made, and indeed, it was very good. And there was evening and there was morning, the sixth day.
In this passage, God created me in His own image. He blessed me. He made me a vegan. He gave me dominion over all of His creation. He created me to have a relationship with Him and all that He created. I must remind myself often that this great power, dominion, was not given to me to meet my own needs. It was given as a stewardship. When I
dwell on this, I ask God's forgiveness for me and all mankind for the injustices we've done to His creation.
"With great power comes great responsibility."
Prayer:
Holy and gracious God, thank you for your good creation. May Your Holy Spirit help me to be a better steward and to continue rejoicing and growing in our relationship. In Jesus name I pray,
Amen.
